Labor would not give motorists much petrol until 1950. The Poms were firing rockets over our Aborigines. Six boys under 17 were gaoled for life, and 10 o’clock closing might stop the six o’clock swill. Indonesia, India and Israel wanted the colonials to go, and cricket was again thriving on on-field hatred of the Poms. Most of our foreign travel was still done by great big overseas liners.

The books were written by Ron Williams who studied the newspapers day-by-day for a particular year, and then condensed the information into a book for that year.

The books are all A5, black and white, with interesting colour covers. There are no charts or graphs or heavy debate. Just facts and opinions and lots of absurd and bold comments. Very nostalgic, a bit irreverent, for the older reader.

They make great gifts for CHRISTMAS, birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and the like.
