Found across much of Australia in open farmland, grasslands and woodland edges, Barn Owls often nest in tree hollows, cliffs or old buildings such as barns and sheds, emerging after dusk to hunt.

Their exceptional hearing and ability to fly almost silently allow them to locate small prey in complete darkness, making them highly skilled and efficient night hunters.
